Genre
In film theory, genre reveals to methods that are based on similarities in the narrative elements from which films are constructed. Films genres can be categorised in various ways, fictional films are usually categorised according to their setting, theme topic, mood , or format. Genre is always vague because there are no fixed boundaries. There are many film genre categorises these are the main ones, Action, adventure,comedy, romance, thriller and horror.
The 'SAW' movies, are all examples of films that are based around a main genre, in this case it is... horror.

Sub-genre
Film genres often split up into sub-genres, such as a romantic thriller. These are sub-classes of the larger category's of film genres. These are some examples of thriller sub-genres: romantic thriller, horror thriller, physcological thriller, crime thriller and many more.
